No. Complete beginners are welcome. The day will be structured around your starting point, with patient tuition throughout.


Yes. Experienced anglers can focus on sight fishing, presentation, fish behaviour and the particular challenges of New Zealand’s clear-water rivers.


No responsible guide can guarantee the behaviour of a wild trout.

Matt will select the most suitable water, prepare carefully and give you the best opportunity possible. Weather, river conditions, fish behaviour and execution all form part of the day.


A typical day involves walking and wading over uneven ground. The distance and pace can be adjusted to suit your ability, but it is important to discuss mobility or health considerations before booking.


Weather and water levels are assessed before every trip. The river or itinerary may change to provide a safer and more rewarding experience. If conditions make fishing unsuitable, Matt will discuss the available options with you.


Bring suitable outdoor clothing, sunglasses, sun protection and any personal medication. A detailed list will be sent before the trip. Fishing equipment can be provided.


Yes. Five- or six-weight rods with floating lines are generally suitable. Tell Matt what you intend to bring and he can advise before the day.


Yes. Te Anau transport, lunch, snacks, drinks and standard fishing equipment are included unless otherwise stated in your booking.


Often, yes. This depends on the trip and terrain. Mention accompanying guests in your enquiry so the day can be planned appropriately.


Arrangements can be made for self-driving visitors, depending on the selected river and day. Matt will confirm the most practical meeting point.


Yes, we practice careful catch-and-release fishing for wild trout with no trout ever been taken on a Traveltruly trip.
