Single day trips are great for those who are short on time but still want to experience the best of New Zealand Fly Fishing
Fly Fishing in New Zealand is unlike anywhere else on the planet. The walk-n-stalk style of sight-fishing is more akin to ‘Trout Hunting’ and is the most exhilarating, testing your skills and nerve!
The rivers we fish are are mostly small and easily wadeable, with waters ranging from mountain freestone rivers to meandering willow lined streams. South Island rivers are mostly inhabited by Brown Trout although Rainbow Trout can be found in certain places. You can expect to be stalking the banks in search of feeding 3-6lb trout, with the possibility of coming across larger fish.
The fishing season runs from October – May with each month offering something interesting and different. Depending on the time of year you can expect to be casting both dry flies and nymphs to fish in clear water with 5-6wt rods.
Your day will begin out of Wanaka or Queenstown where you will be picked up from your accomodation. From there we head towards the chosen water for the day, driving around 30 to 90 minutes each way. We will be walking most of the day so be prepared for a good day on your feet. The trip is suitable for both new and experienced anglers and Matt will provide the necessary tuition throughout. Just bring along a good attitude and willingness to learn and it will be a day you will never forget!
